Barley Straw Biochar and Compost Affect Heavy Metal Transport in Soil and Uptake by Potatoes Grown under Wastewater Irrigation

چکیده

Wastewater can supplement freshwater in agriculture; however, it contains toxic heavy metals such as cadmium, chromium, and lead that are hazardous to humans the environment. We investigated effects of barley straw biochar, green table waste compost, their mix on metal transport soil uptake by potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.) irrigated with synthetic wastewater for two years. In both years, amending compost significantly reduced (p ≤ 0.05) cadmium potato flesh, skin, roots, stems; zinc skin roots; copper flesh due increased cation-exchange capacity, dissolved organic carbon, pH. Co-amending 3% biochar bioavailability copper, contaminated soil. Relative non-amended soils, amendment affected neither iron, soils nor potatoes. It was concluded and/or produced from city could be used improve safety potatoes, depending application rate type.

Interaction of different irrigation strategies and soil textures on the nitrogen uptake of field grown potatoes

Nitrogen (N) uptake (kg ha-1) of field-grown potatoes was measured in 4.32 m2 lysimeters that were filled with coarse sand, loamy sand, and sandy loam and subjected to full (FI), deficit (DI), and partial root-zone drying (PRD) irrigation strategies. PRD and DI as water-saving irrigation treatments received 65% of FI after tuber bulking and lasted for six weeks until final harvest. Results show...

effect of wastewater and compost on transport of some heavy metals in soil profile

in order to investigate the effect of wastewater and compost on transport of heavy metals in a soil column, a factorial experiment based on completely randomized design with three replication was conducted. the variables included three types of water: fresh water (w1), treated wastewater (w2) and a composition of 50% raw wastewater and 50% fresh water (w3). besides, four levels of compost were ...
